The space
This property is situated in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, about 1/2 way between Big Sky and Bozeman off Hwy 191. It has tremendous views of the Canyon, Storm Castle Peak, and the Gallatin River. Enjoy exploring Bozeman, Big Sky, Yellowstone, or go fly fishing in the blue-ribbon Gallatin River right across the road! (See if you can find Brad Pitt Rock made famous in the movie “A River Runs Through It.”) A 5-minute drive north gets you to Spanish Creek which has a public access road that drives through part of Ted Turner’s Flying D Ranch which has the nation’s largest free roaming buffalo herds along with numerous other wildlife. Or, if you are more adventurous, three of the Canyon’s top hikes (Storm Castle, Lava Lake, and Hell Roaring Creek) are within 5 minutes of the house! Other nearby activities include white-water rafting, ATV rentals, skiing (winter), and the Bozeman Hot Springs.
The Flying J Ranch sits on 5 acres and the main house has 5,500 sq ft of living space with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. There are 2 king master suites, a loft with 2 twin beds, and 2 separate bedrooms downstairs. The basement features a game room with a pool table and walkout basement which opens onto the front yard and driveway. The main floor has a wood stove set amongst local rockwork and soaring 20-foot-high ceilings, with a wraparound deck. The windows occupy over 1/2 of the walls in the main living room to take advantage of the views in all directions. The chef’s kitchen has stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, with a laundry and 1/2 bath tucked behind it. There is a large deck in the back of the house also.
Just down the driveway is the Bunkhouse, which adds an extra 1000 sq ft of living space. Please note that the Bunkhouse can be booked on its own as well. The bunkhouse is located above the garage and is a modern 1 bed 1 bath that can sleep 4 comfortably. It has a pull-out queen-sized sofa bed, and a deck with killer views of the Canyon. It also has a full laundry, full kitchen, and full bath for the guest’s enjoyment.
The property itself is frequented by all of Montana’s big game at various times of year, including moose, bear, and eagles, and on the cliffs across from the home, you may spot some bighorn sheep traversing the rocky faces.
This home is truly one of a kind, and would be an excellent basecamp for your next Montana, Bozeman, Yellowstone, or Big Sky adventure!
